Mayors News Bulletin

Good evening!  Middleport has much to be thankful for in the aftermath of Friday's storm.  Many others have suffered much worse and continue to suffer and our prayers go out to them.  The mere fact that much of the Village never lost their electricity and the rest got it back relatively quickly was a real blessing.  First, I have a few things to point out in the crisis and then I have a bunch of "thank yous" to pass along:

- We have had calls concerned we were about to lose our water.  We are not about to lose our water.  Everything is working fine and we have power for the system.  If we lost power, we have generators to keep the system going.  I have seen on the news that some places have no power or back ups to run their systems but it isn't us.

- The 4th of July Celebration will happen as planned.  The festivities start at Diles Park at 3 PM.  The whole schedule is nice family activities that would be a great escape from the problems of the last few days.  Even if some are still without power, invite them to come in and relax for awhile with us.  There are activities for the kids.  The parade lines up at 4:30 PM and starts at 5 PM.  The flag raising follows the parade and the band starts at 8 PM and runs until the fireworks at 9:30 PM.  They will be launched from behind Dairy Queen again.

-Our cemeteries took a hit from the storm.  It shattered several trees.  In Riverview the flowers on the graves have been blown everywhere.  If you have a chance to go up in the next couple of days you might be able to find yours and replace them.  Otherwise, we'll just have to pick them up and dispose of them.  The trees there have already been cleared.  The other side had more trees and bigger trees down and more damage.  We are still working on clearing those.  The lanes are open.

Now, for the "thank you’s":

-The first responders were out there Friday doing their work literally in the midst of the storm while not knowing what was happening with their own families and homes.  Thank you to our Police that were out checking on citizens and for keeping the peace in those long, long, tense lines at the gas pumps.

-Thank you to our Firemen who went to Rutland to help fight a fire during the storm then responded to all those dangerous situations here after the storm.  So far this year our volunteers have saved the Village more than $32000 over paid man hours.

-Thank you to EMS for making critical runs here during and after the storm.  Thank you to AEP for getting the rest of us back on power so quickly.

-Thank you to our street clearing crew that had all our streets cleared and open by dark on Friday.  No easy task.

-Thank you to our restaurants and gas stations who worked under great pressure and until early morning feeding and fueling what seemed like the entire region for those first two days.  People had no where else to go.

AND ... thanks to all of you who checked on your neighbors and helped where you could.  It is all part of why we love this town.

Have a good night!
