The Downing House Bed & Breakfast, with its stately façade and rich history is located in the heart of Middleport and listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The Downing House was home to four generations of Downings, including Major John B. Downing, a riverboat captain on the Ohio River, and a friend of Samuel Clemens (aka Mark Twain).

The Mark Twain guest room, with adjoining bath, is decorated in blue & white toile, antique oak furniture, and porch windows on 3 sides.
